So my gaming clubs big box of paper terrain got destroyed about a week ago, we really need to stop having beer on tap. It went right into are container of terrain and well they did not survive. No one really felt like spending any money for replacements since most of us are just starting a second army, and the bar needed restocking . ( well actually have everyone but both eldar tau bolter woman and black templars represented ) So i went down to the Menards found the cheapest possible material to pound out some ruins with, because im sick of all the intact buildings exploding . ( www.menards.com/main/building-materials/insulation/panels/r3-1-2-x-4-x-8-foamular-rigid-foam-insulating-sheathing/p-1384833-c-5779.htm )
The foam insulation actually turns out to be pretty hard to work with it doesn't like being cut in strait lines manually, and shreds when your try and use an electric table saw even on low speeds.
I figured strait lines didn't really matter as much. So then it came to the hole gluing foam together part. Most glues wont really bond well with foam my model glue melted it, tacky glue refused to bond, eventually ended up have to use gorilla glue. Gorilla glue though takes a long time to set, so i ended up have to add nails to hold the walls together while the glue set.
Then the painting began. First just tried a nice and simple can of discount spray paint that ended up melting my ruins a ton and gave them a acid eaten look. so i sprayed them down with some left over slate grey house paint from my second bathroom . i then didn't like how they looked so i sprayed them with some of that bargain spray paint again. ( ya that 1.20 stuff ) Guise what they still melted lol.
Finally I end up with some 3 year olds version of ruins that just don't look quit ruined enough.
